How to Style an Elevated Bedding Look
Contents
Finding a good look for the place you spend a large portion of your life should be priority when designing your bedroom. Here’s a few tips and tricks for choosing elevated bedding that will age alongside you.
Not all bedding is created equal and whether we are sourcing bedding pieces for our Studio McGee design clients or designing bedding products for McGee & Co., we are always considering the smallest of details. The bedding we love and use most is made to look and live well long after the first wash, from the materials to the trims that bring an elevated feeling to each layer. Building a great bedding look is all about knowing your materials, mixing textures, working in a cohesive color palette, and layering for extra warmth and dimension. Here are a few things to look for when choosing your bedding pieces and curating a look that’s uniquely you.

01
Considered Materials
Great bedding that holds its quality wash after wash is all about the type of material you choose, and after years of sourcing bedding pieces for our clients, we knew we wanted to design our own that withstand the wear and tear of daily life. Whether you love the cooling effects of a linen blend, the soft feeling of bamboo, or luxurious sateen, each of our sheet sets were designed with practicality and draping in mind to give you both form and function.

Blended Textures
Mixing textures will always lend a more relaxed and elevated feeling with bedding pieces, especially in a neutral palette. For example, if our client loves bamboo sheets, we might add a linen duvet cover and cotton quilt on top to mix it up and bring more dimension to the overall look and feel. When choosing your bedding pieces, keep the textures in mind and try mixing the layers accordingly.

Dimensional Tones
Just like mixing textures, bedding can be a great way to experiment with different colors and tones, too. Since the bed is often the bedroom’s focal point, adding some variation in hue (even if it’s monochromatic) lends a more interesting look. If you’re going for a minimal palette, look for grays, beiges, browns, or even a subtly patterned coverlet or duvet to bring in a few different tones.

Layered Pieces
Adding layers to your bedding is what gives it that cozy, hotel-like feeling. We love incorporating throws at the end of the bed draped or folded to soften the look and add a new element of texture. When choosing bedding, look for throws in luxurious materials like cashmere or heavy knits to elevate any bedding combination.
